THE NECROPOLIS IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
The Etruscan Necropolis of Strozzacapponi is situated between the municipalities of Perugia and Corciano. This is an area rich in travertine deposits which promoted the development of crafts and the birth of a village where the craftsmen lived and carried out their activities. There are no archaeological traces of this village, but there is a large necropolis with more than 75 chamber graves dug into the travertine stone, an access corridor (dromos) and a staircase. Inside the chamber graves there were the funerary urns and the simple grave goods of the craftsmen. Some of the urns have the dead person's name carved or painted on the lid. Most of the tombs are found within a group of houses and shops open to the public.
